11-21-11

Everyday you learn something new. In my STEM class we are doing a unit on problem solving. We have to do a project to attempt to solve a problem of our choosing. My partner and I came up with the problem of having a low level of media arts at our school. We decided as our solution to have a media arts contest. So far we are working on doing the cost of admission and prize. At first we were thinking of doing Ipods but if we don't make enough money from admission then we cant pay ourselves back.My only solution is to try doing a pot. We also have to start advertising to actually get it going. I don't really know a lot of kids at our school know what media arts even is.

Everyday you learn something new. A few days ago I found out that I needed to start fundraising for the field trip for New York in the summer. I thoght of a few ways like reselling on sale candy or doing a Salvation Army like fundraiser in front of buisneses. It might be a good way to learn about economics as well as all the things Ill learn on the trip. I was at the mall yesterday and found this.

It was 30$ at the store. They might make nice Christmas gifts for people. I could actually make them for around 5$ each and sell them for 15$. It would probably work to some extent. I like how people can turn something so simple into a creative piece of art. There are all kinds of simple creations and simple yet amazing artwork out there.

Everyday you learn something new. In my Social Studies class I am studying the Great Depression. One of the main ideas was to find out how the Great Depression affected the world. I had never thought of it that way. The world is so connected. One major world power has an economic breakdown and the whole world follows along. In my research Russia was the only major country not affected, mainly because the economy was self sufficient. France was only affected because of problems prior to the depression. If those problems hadn't existed they probably wouldn't have been too bad off. The French Economy was better off because it was simpler. The world was connected in the 1930's by economics. Countries depend upon each other for trade. The Great Depression stopped that trade. Today we still depend upon each other for trade but now we also depend upon each other for communication. Website servers are based worldwide. I never realized how worldwide the depression was and how connected we are as a society.

11-21-11 (makeup for 11-9-11)

Everyday you learn something new. Lately I started thinking about the way our projects have gone. I remember writing a blog about this awhile ago, at that time I thought we were steering away from the process a bit. It's interesting to see how the process went. When we first started I thought this might be a lot shorter and simpler, but I have liked the long and complexness. I also thought that the order was different. I remember hearing that the research paper was like the base when it has ended up being the product. We  also still haven't done a bit towards are expert review. I'm not saying that I don't like it, I'm just saying its really different from what I thought it would be.

Everyday you learn something new. In the last week or so I have been running dry on blog topics. Its probably pretty obvious since the topic of this blog is blog topics. I tried to think about what I was writing in the past and tried to find topics from that but it didnt help at all. It seemed like most topics were about my research paper. Now that im not researching for it I have trouble finding things to write about. I think I should try researching things on my own and writing about them or doing things like the Mental Models and Mystery Box videos. I don't really like the way it comes out when I blog about things from other classes. The one time I tried doing my own research and blogging (the graphine one) didn't seem too bad. Hopefully I can find some interesting topics soon.

Everyday you learn something new. Today I was researching how to write HTML documents. Ive been doing a lot of website making for my projects and I thought it might help make my websites better if I could do some coding by myself. Ive only learned some basic things but here is what I can do so far. Please note that because of the formatting in this blog post it might be a bit confusing. Things might also look wrong because Blogger's code conflicts with mine.

The Great Depression</h2>
<div class="paragraph editable-text" style="display: block; text-align: left;">
In
 my research I found that the Great Depression (as a worldwide economic
breakdown) was caused by the American Stock Market Crash of 1929 (Black
Tuesday). Nobody seems to know why the Crash of 1929 occurred. There are
 theories but none of them are accepted as facts or even well developed
theories. The other thing I found surprising was that there was no
revolution in America like there was in other countries. It seems like
in America we trusted our government instead of blaming it, even though
we blamed the depression on Herbert Hoover. I also found it interesting
how the Great Depression spread throughout the world. Until I researched
 it I thought the Great Depression was just a national problem. It's
interesting to find out how connected world economies are. The Great
Depression was a terrible time for the whole world. Hopefully there wont
 be another one in today's modernized economies. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

My Opinion Of The Great Depression - The Great Depression

VEveryday you learn something new. Have you ever heard of graphene? Graphene is made from graphie, a common element in pencils. It becomes graphite when it is 1 atom thick. Graphene is now being used in the making of electronic components. My 7th grade science teacher said that "with the use of graphine we can make Ipads that are paper thin. Graphene is useful in making electronic components like sensors, transistors, and cases. IBM has already made a 10ghz radio mixer using it. Graphene is also very strong. It is said to be over 200x stronger than steel. It could be used to make.cars and.planes. Its flexibility will also help in the making of vehicles. The only problem is that it is extremely light. This could be a problem in the production of cars and planes. I wonder where graphene will take us. It seems almost too Good to be true. Its hard to imagine something so thin being so strong but it is. What will be next?
